We thought we were being smart getting really cheap, and therefore really early, Alaska Air tickets from Palm Springs up to San Francisco to continue our time in CA.
Man, was that a bad idea after 3 days of late nights in the desert.
Thankfully Ravi was willing to get up at the butt crack of dawn to take the three of us to the airport.
It was still way too early when we got to San Francisco as evidenced by the shot of the deserted baggage claim Will took while I was changing my clothes so as to survive the chilly temps we encountered upon our arrival in the Bay Area – not unexpected hence the quick wardrobe change. First stop – breakfast. We asked Victor for recommendations in San Fran before we left but we forgot them but he came through for us via text with a fantastic little place called Red Door Cafe. It’s tiny, eschews technology (no website, twitter, etc), very kitschy decor, and amazing French & Latin food with a slight vegetarian bent.
First up – bowls of coffee and a mocha with lots of whip for me. Yep, not mugs – bowls. So tasty and so necessary.
It didn’t make sense to go out to Ruben and Sarah’s in Pleasant Hill if there was anything we wanted to see in the city. So after breakfast, we went off to the Wharf to do a little sight seeing.
Which, of course, involved a little caching. Ruben’s first caching experience.
a shot with Alcatraz in the background from Pier 39.
No trip to San Fran is complete without a stop to see the sea lions.
Will and Ruben were enjoying the sea lion watching and the weather and this was the cleanest, tamest sea gull I’ve ever seen.
We walked down to the Musée Méchanique to check out the old arcade games.
Oh Will, are you sure you should be looking at that – it says “For Adults Only”? (it was 1920s “porn” - scantily clad ladies of the time.)
After this we headed on to Emeryville to visit Sarah at Pixar – I think I’ll add to my post count for our special visit to Pixar and the saga that was dinner that night.
