day 3 – killarney, muckross house

We had decided before we left home to spend two nights in Killarney because Riverdance was in town.  As a result, we had an entire day to occupy ourselves in the area.  We decided to go to one of my favorite places in Killarney (which we only found on our trip in ‘93 because we had to stick around town due to car troubles), Muckross House.

Oh – but first, the views from our B&B.

Mom was fascinated with the pond/fountain that they were digging off to the side of the property right outside their bedroom window.

Ok… now Muckross House.

You can take a very nice tour of the house now (we don’t remember being able to do that in ‘93 and we didn’t actually make it to the house in ‘00) but, of course, you can’t take any pictures.  So we did that, rambled around the grounds a while, got some lunch, and did a little shopping.  Because we were going to have a late night going to see Riverdance, we went back to Carriglea to rest up.

Well, after a short nap, Will and I actually decided to do some more exploring and caching.

There were 2 caches near the cathedral which I seem to recall going to mass in back in ‘01 but I can’t be positive since we didn’t go inside the church.

But there was a wedding! We caught them as the wedding party and family were headed into the same park that we were about to duck into.  Needless to say, Will was a little self conscious and kept telling me to get out of their wedding pictures.  ha!

After they finally passed by, we followed them into Killarney National Park.  We had no clue what we were seeing but we found a couple of really neat places while we looked for the cache.

This really neat thatched roof cottage.  It’s a cafe.

Then this manor type house that was really close to where we needed to be looking.  I think it was an educational center but we were too lazy to walk around to the front of the building to find out.

We found this nearby:

it was tucked in the wall.

he left behind the cute triceratops travel bug that he’d had for a while with the intention of leaving in Ireland – mission accomplished.

I have a bunch more pictures of the church that I took while he found another cache but eh, you’ve seen one church, you’ve seen them all.  And then we failed at another cache that gave us a nice view of the city but those pictures are kind of boring too.

So we headed back to get cleaned up for dinner and the show.  Of which there are no pictures.  So thus ends day 3 in Killarney.

Day 1: Arrival, Adare, Tralee
Day 2: Dingle Peninsula Part 1, Part 2, Part 3
