2010?

Well, 2009 was a pretty good year for the 2 of us.
  • I turned 29.
  • We saw Avenue Q and Death Cab for Cutie.
  • We visited friends in Ohio and got to see a Flyer game in Dayton.
  • We bought a new car - Will's Mazda.
  • My mom got new knees.
  • Erin graduated from college.
  • Liz and I went to a lot of country concerts.
  • Our friends all started turning 30.
  • I started this here blog.
  • Both the Aggies and the Flyers made it to the second weekend of the CAN softball tournament. A first for the Flyers.
  • I finished my MBA - finally.
  • We traveled to Montenegro, Austria, and Germany.
  • We celebrated our first wedding anniversary.
  • We saw Guster in concert - again.
  • We went to Houston for a wedding.
  • We went to Denver to check it out.
  • We got snowed in.
  • and Will turned 30.

What does 2010 have in store for us? Here's a few things that will and could happen.

  • I will turn 30.
  • We might move either to a new place in VA or to CO.
  • The way things are going, I wouldn't be surprised if we get snowed in again.
  • We're going to the Coachella Music Festival in mid-April.
  • I might finish some of the projects that were originally on the list all the while adding new ones to it.
  • We'll hopefully visit or be visited by friends.
  • We're planning to go to Ireland in late-June/early-July.
  • Michelle Obama might speak at GW's commencement; in which case, I believe I will walk even though I already have my diploma.
  • and Will will turn 31.

someone's turning 30...

Not ME!!

Will!

Happy Birthday, honey!

(sadly, even though I built the collage to specifically fit the width of the blog, it won't let me upload it in full size so you have to click on the picture to see it)

ork posters!

I'm actually writing this in October (the 27th at 5pm to be exact) because I don't want to forget to share this great site but I'm thinking of getting a few Christmas presents from these folks at Orks Posters and don't want to ruin it and therefore it will publish after Christmas.

I stumbled upon these great neighborhood posters through the blonde photographer (who I found through Liz because she knows the photog's sister from the BL - amazing pics, you should check her out too). I saw a version of the DC first because one of the couples that she shot had used one as their "guestbook" and then because she had a post (from where I stole the above pic) about the posters.

They have 13 cities/areas and the heart and brain currently. What I was truly amazed at was how reasonable the prices were. Some were less than $20!

christmas 25 questions

I was going to put this up as a FB note but if I do it here, I can add more pictures.

1. Wrapping paper or gift bags? We finished 3 rolls wrapping paper but still have 4 that are unopened.

2. Real tree or Artificial? Fake but once the lights on it die, we’re getting a real one.

3. When do you put up the tree? Within the first 2 weeks of December. We put it up early this year (right after Thanksgiving).

4. When do you take the tree down? Not until after the Epiphany

5. Do you like eggnog? Blech.

6. Favorite (or most memorable) gift received as a child? My Bloomies bear and my Strawberry Shortcake kitchen.

7. Hardest person to buy for? My brother-in-law, always.

8. Easiest person/s to buy for? My husband – he doesn’t even realize how easy he makes it! Erin’s pretty easy too.

9. Do you have a nativity scene? Yep. An old one from my parents. I guess we’ll get our own eventually

10. Mail or email Christmas cards? Mail, for sure!

11. Worst Christmas gift you ever received? No comment. Though nothing’s been really terrible.

12. Favorite Christmas Movie? I am not a huge Christmas Story fan. I love Elf (weird because I hate Will Farrell) and this old TV movie with Angela Lansbury, Mrs. Claus.

13. When do you start shopping for Christmas? It can be any time but usually on our big vacation for the year so this year it was August and last it was October.

14. Have you ever recycled a Christmas present? Not yet but I can imagine doing it in the future.

15. Favorite thing to eat at Christmas? Any and all Christmas cookies.

16. Favorite Christmas song? There are so many – Christmas Song the Nat King Cole version; Silver Bells – with the words; Let it Snow…

17. Travel at Christmas or stay home? Being just the 2 of us, we travel. One year at my folks’ and the next at Will’s parents’.

18. Can you name all of Santa's reindeer? I think so. Donner, Blitzen, Comet and Cupid, … hmm… maybe not.

19. Angel on the tree top or a star? Star. I want to get my hands on the one that my mom has that she doesn’t put on the tree anymore for when we have a real tree.

20. Open the presents Christmas Eve or morning? In the morning in your PJs.

21. Most annoying thing about this time of the year? The fact that even though there are about a 1,000 versions of every Christmas song ever written, Wash FM still plays the same ones constantly so even I get tired of listening.

22. Favorite ornament, theme, or color? Traditional green and red, thank you. Mostly red though. Lots of Nutcrackers.

23. Favorite for Christmas Dinner? Prime rib. NO turkey. But really Christmas brunch is best.

24. What do you want to do for Christmas this year? Exactly what we’re doing – seeing family. Though I do wish we could do both (sorry, hun)

NASA pic

NASA published an article on our little Nor'easter. Check out the East Coast.

aftermath

well.... above ground Metro stations were closed for a day and a half, buses were shut down for longer with many routes still not running, we didn't really get out of our pjs for the better part of 3 days, and it's still pretty crazy out there. We finally ventured out further than walking distance for lunch and a trip to Target. Later we took a walk and I took some pictures of the snowy world we're living in right now.

the snow piled in the parking lot with Will for reference

several people around the neighborhood used chairs to save their parking spots once they'd been dug out; sidewalk to nowhere

they were sweeping the snow off the roof of the shopping center; lots of buried cars

after almost 2 whole days of melt - still 14" of snow on my car

And it's still snowing!

(Can you tell that I'm just playing on the internet while being snowed in?)

snow angels

As I quickly discovered, making snow angels in deep snow is kind of difficult.

After I first flopped into the snow and realized that I couldn't hardly move.

Trying to make wings as you would traditionally do it.

freeing my arms from the snow

resorting to patting the snow down for my wings

so snow covered

alright... now how do I get up??

trekking in the snow...

I finally broke down and woke my dear husband up to go play in the snow this morning. We decided to trek to Dunkin' Donuts for breakfast and then wander the neighborhood taking pictures. It's a TON of snow.

demonstrating how deep it was - about 10" around 11am

snOMG

That is one of the phrases I saw bandied about yesterday to describe what was then our impending snow fall. "snow my god" would be a rough translation for you, Mom. Other good ones were snowpocalypse and thundersnow.

I didn't really believe it but it was definitely snowing and sticking already by 10pm. I've managed to miss taking pictures the last 2 times I've been in snow this season so I wasn't going to take any chances this time.
So we went out for a walk to take some pictures and put the netflix in the mail.

the Mazda's first snow; near the condo office

it seemed silly to use the flash but it made the snow look like glitter coming down from the sky

what the world looks like this morning - from inside, of course

I can't wait to go out and play but Will's still in bed :-(
