harper's ferry

We had an extra day a few weeks ago so we decided to go for a hike. Will is in charge of choosing hikes and planning them. I just do the hiking and picture taking. He decided on Harper's Ferry, West Virgina with the actual hike being in Maryland Heights National Park. We didn't even have to get up that early which is a major plus in my book. We got out there about 10 and had a bit of time finding a parking spot - there's just pull offs to the side of the road so it really just depends on how smart/dumb other people park. It seemed that most folks were on the tow path by the river though.

We headed into the park and up a steep incline for quite a while. We'd decided to take the 6 mile long route to the popular overlook. Most people went straight there so we only came across 2 other couples on the path for quite a while. The Civil War history was actually kind of interesting when we considered out out of breath we were going up these slopes and we weren't hauling cannons, water barrels, or huge amounts of supplies like the soldiers would have been. There were amazing views of Harper's Ferry from the overlook.

Then we hiked back out and wandered around the town of Harper's Ferry.

After wandering around Harper's Ferry, we took a detour to Point of Rocks, Maryland for a cache.
